In 2008 Steelpipe supplied over 7km's of pipe for a new steam line from bore to station. All pipe was produced in accordance with API specification and the production and testing independently certified by SGS, an internationally recognized testing authority.
The project was open to international tender, however Steelpipe’s flexibility around production run sizes and delivery times was key in winning the contract.
Customising production and delivery logistics to suit Contact’s construction scheduling requirements ensured the efficient use of transport and on site storage.
Contact Energy, a leading energy generator in New Zealand, owns the Wairakei Power Station in the central North Island, which delivers power to the equivalent of 150,000 homes. Steelpipe had a long term relationship with Wairakei providing pipe since its inception in 1958.
