Citic Pacific investment spans an iron ore mine, processing plant and port facility near Cape Preston, approximately 80km south west of Karratha. An all weather access causeway needed to be built within a very tight schedule to enable mine construction to proceed.
The two key challenges for Steelpipe were the short lead times and the remoteness of the site. Steelpipe was able complete this project in under a month, an aggressive timeframe.
Steelpipe’s local knowledge was an advantage in managing the complex logistics given the remoteness of the ‘green fields’ causeway site. Using established relationships with local cartage companies, the piles were transported to Cape Preston by road. Deliveries were staged to keep ahead of the pile driving programme helping the project to come in on time.
Overall the project is another example of Steelpipe working with its clients to meet challenging requirements around timing, logistics and effective communication.
