Paradise Gully Irrigation Scheme

Project categories: Water |

  • Client:

    North Otago Irrigation Company

  • Location:

    Oamaru, New Zealand

  • Project Details:

2,000m of Spiral Welded Concrete Lined and Tape Coated Pipe

  • Completion:

    January 2009

The large scale Paradise Valley irrigation scheme, delivering water from the Waitaki River to farms on the North Otago downlands and in the Waiareka Valley, now has 90 shareholders irrigating 10,000ha.

Steelpipe supplied both 508mm and 426mm diameter at 4.8mm wall thickness for this pressurised section of the line.

The choice of steel pipe, rather than PVC enabled faster project completion -through laying twelve metre lengths each with a  hemi-spherical slip in joint (HSJ) for ease of on-site welding.

Future proofing has also been an important consideration. Steel pipe offers greater strength at higher pressures than any other product, giving the line spare pressure which will enable it to be extended at a later date.
